Whether you are a very sociable person or not, saying no to junk food
gets really overwhelming and sometimes in gatherings junk food is all that is
offered to guests! In a world which is highly paradoxical – while one section
of the society is highly motivated towards being fit, the other is highly
ignorant to even general well-being – how do you say NO to all that junk?
1. Learn To Cook:
This is one of the easiest ways to drop the junk food. Learn to cook your favorite carbs. It is an eye opener. Most of us are only acquainted with the taste we derive from pizzas, pastas and the likes, but once you learn how to actually make it, you will be shocked by the amount of unhealthy ingredients it attracts just to give you that particular taste! Once you educate yourself of the same, more often than not, you consciously will refrain from eating junk/outside food.
2. Find Replacements:
Believe it or not, every food you crave has an easy replacement. Cottage
cheese or Paneer as we call it can be replaced with tofu, wheat/maida can be
replaced with bajra, sugar can be replaced with gur, and so on and so forth.
Find these replacements and experiment with various results to find a match
that helps you neglect the calorie-laden version. In my 4-days ‘Ultimate Life
Camp’, we serve the participants such replacements with home-cooked, organic,
healthy and tasty food that mesmerizes them throughout the camp.
3. Question Your Existing Diet:
Even if you are the type who is more conscious about your health and are
still unable to eliminate junk food, you need to question your existing diet.
What do you eat every day? And I don’t mean on special occasions where you
indulge, but every day? What is your breakfast, lunch and dinner comprised of?
And are you fulfilled by it enough? Why are you constantly craving unhealthy
carbohydrates? Ask yourself.
4. Exercise Regimen:
Most of us who exercise regularly and sometimes tend to spend a little
more time in the gym, feel OKAY to indulge ourselves in a pizza here, a burger
there and soda in between, on a regular basis. Don’t make your exercise an
excuse to indulge. In fact, while you exercise it is even more important to support
it with a healthy diet in order to build new muscles.
5. Invest in an OTG or an Air
Fryer:
An Oven Toaster Grill a.k.a. OTG or an Air Fryer is a great tool to help
you make healthier versions of your favourite dishes. Invest in one! You can
make your favourite French fries but instead of deep-frying it in excessive oil
you can bake it or air fry it using negligible oil. This is just one example,
experiment yourself!
6. Lead By Example:
Either say no to constant take-outs and social gatherings or lead by
example. Make sure when you are the host to people for any gathering, casual or
otherwise, you give them the highest quality of healthy yet tasty food. When
you do this it is easier for others to follow suit.
7. Home Cooked > Outside
Food:
One of the easiest methods of self-control is to tell yourself that you
can eat whatever it is that you want as long as it is cooked in your kitchen!
Outside food is tempting but the same thing home-cooked can save you MANY
calories and this will go a long way to build a healthier habit.
8. Visit A Dietician:
It all boils down to this – expert care! Just like you visit your
dermatologist or your physician on an annual or quarterly basis, visit a
dietician too. Our bodies change rapidly in an environment conducive to constant
change. One rule cannot be applied to all and it needs to adapt to a person’s
changing lifestyle.
