Decision-making
is extremely significant. Thus, for the purposes of this post, I want to clear
the air by stating that the “right decisions” that I am referring to here are
life-altering decisions and not simple day-to-day choices that we make. Such
big-picture decisions determine the course of your life in more ways than one.
Thus, never underestimate the power that one wrong decision can have in your
life. Contrastingly, the right decisions will let you live peacefully and give
you a sense of freedom and independence. But sometimes, with the bigger aspects
in life, we tend to lack objectivity in order to take the correct decision
especially if it seems like a short-term loss to us. We are unable to see the
long-term gains of certain decisions and hence, lack perspective to take the
correct path. This needs to change. Hence, read and learn about how to make a
right decision as follows:-
First Intuition –
It
must have been so with you, at some point of time in life or the other, that
while finding yourself in a ruckus, you get an intuition; but you tend to
ignore it and use your mind in order to weigh certain pros and cons before
drawing a conclusion, only to find out that your first intuition was in fact
the correct path. The most relatable example for the same is a
multiple-choice-questions examination – we get the intuition of the right
option at the very onset, but then we keep weighing the significance of the
other options only to find out that our first intuition was on point. Thus,
decision-making need not be very complicated, just go with your first intuition
and try not to over think about it and you should be fine.
Odd Advice –
Taking
good advice before making an important decision is essential. But what will
happen if you take this advice from someone you are very close to or you love?
They will not be able to freely express their actual opinions to you. Thus,
take an “odd advice”. Go to someone you are not very close to or someone who
apparently “dislikes you” and ask them point-blank and be ready for some
hard-hitting, brutal reality. This is when you can really be objective and see
a completely different perspective before making the correct decision.
Organize Your Thoughts –
Organizing and arranging your thoughts can
lead you to gain some great point of views. When you organize your thoughts you
tend to be more in control of yourself, and thus, more in control of the
situations around you. This leads you to not make up your mind at the impulse
of a particular moment. Organizing your thoughts can lead you to calm down
before making an important decision. It can help you listen to others’ advice
and guidance. It can also help you to detach from any emotions which could hold
you from using your conscience correctly. Well, I talk about Thoughts, Emotions
and Intuition in detail IN OUR PARENTS SESSION HELD EVERYMONTH.
Don’t Rush –
This
is somewhat the golden rule of decision-making. Don’t rush into taking
decisions. Don’t rush into anything especially when you are too happy or too
angry. That’s when we make certain commitments which (under the influence of
our momentary happiness or anger) we are not sure of being able to pull off at
all. This makes you look bad and really hurts your self-respect and confidence.
Rushing = Regretting!
Detach from negativity –
For certain people, taking the right decision becomes difficult especially if it hurts them in some way or the other. As a result of which they become negative without even looking out for their long-term benefits for making the right choice. For those people, it is extremely important for them to get some quiet time and some space after making such a seemingly difficult decision. When you will get that quiet time, you will recuperate and see the whole situation as a hallmark of strength and not as a weakness, i.e., the negativity will automatically convert itself into a positive development.
